NBA effurun sets up COVID-19 monitoring committee

COVID-19: NBA EFFURUN BRANCH SETS UP AD HOC COMMITTEE TO MONITOR COMPLIANCE WITH PREVENTIVE MEASURES WITHIN HUMAN RIGHTS BOUNDARY
The NBA Effurun Branch has set up a committee to monitor the enforcement of the Directives on preventive measures to curb the spread of Corona Virus, including the sit at home order, made by the Governor of Delta State, with the primary aim of ensuring that those saddled with the responsibility of enforcement do so without violation of the rights of citizens. The committee is named “COVID-19 PREVENTIVE MEASURES IMPLEMENTATION COMMITTEE” and chaired by Chief Anthony Duku.
While commending the efforts of the Government of Delta State so far on keeping Delta State free from the Covid-19, the chairman of the branch, Don O. Egho, Esq. Ch.MC, maintained that setting up the committee has become necessary owing to the fact that the human rights of Deltans have not been utterly suspended. It is therefore necessary for those enforcing compliance with the relevant legislation, orders, directives and regulations on the preventive measures on Covid-19 to observe an unshaking respect for human rights. The Delta State Public Health Law Cap P21 Laws of Delta State 2006, the Quarantine Act, Cap Q2 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004 and the Infectious Diseases (Emergency Prevention) Regulation 2020 all of which form the foundation of the orders of the Governor of Delta State in respect of Covid-19 preventive measures prescribe penalty for any defaulter. It is therefore important not only that the penalties stipulated be pursued within the ambit of the law but also that the procedure adopted in achieving that does not melt out inhuman and/or degrading treatment to members of the general public.
On his part, the chairman of the committee Chief Anthony Duku noted that the committee will liaise and work closely with both the security agencies and the state, Uvwie, Okpe and Ethiope East Local Government Covid-19 team to ensure that the good intentions of the state government on curbing the spread of the virus in Delta State do not bear any bad fruits, particularly in respect of rights violation of members of the public. He urged members of the public to stay safe and abide strictly by the Orders of the state government and maintain good hygiene.

DEEP BREATH part 1

The sound of the gunshots woke me up from sleep. I heard little children screaming outside. I quickly put on a black t-shirt and a short lemon nicker. I ran outside and saw a death pool of catholic sisters and some children, blood flooded the whole environment. I ran to where the other children were and I saw them crying with blood stained hands and clothes. Tears filled my eyes but I couldn't cry because I knew it wasn't the time for emotions. I closed the door of the room where they were hiding and told them to keep shut. All of a sudden, the whole place became really quiet, then I could hear their voices. I peeped through a small hole in the door and saw them with guns, cutlass and all sorts of arms. They walked through the dead bodies and made sure no one was alive by shooting them twice. There was no conscience in their eyes. There was no pity. At some point, I asked myself if they were humans, because I knew every human being ...
