THE POWER OF FORGIVENESS

We always talk about forgiveness but only in the light of forgiving others. We rarely talk about self forgiveness, which has as much importance as forgiving others. Self forgiveness takes away alot of things like depression, grief, regrets, grudges and all sad energies. This is a short story on Kesha Stone and her journey to self forgiveness... "God please you have to help me, I am already tired of trying. What am I suppose to do? Everything that I have felt is right, I have done. Yet it's still the same, God I am still the same. There is no change, I still have cancer..... (Takes in a heavy breath). God I just got married and I am few weeks pregnant. Please God I can't die, I can't leave my husband and my unborn child. I can't just leave halfway". I screamed so loud, pulling strands on my hair out as I stayed on my kneels. I pressed my face to the bed and the pitch of my voice became dim. I was already at that point in my life where I thought I was going ...

THE PATIENT (Episode five)

Patient: Sometimes when we talk about broken homes, we focus solely on the children and neglect the adults. We forget that this children will still grow up, become adults and still haven't healed. That trauma doesn't just go, it's like a tattoo that won't just come off. I thought growing up and being a man would make me less affected by it, (scoffs), I guess I was wrong. Sometimes I wish I came from another rather than my own. Psychiatrist: What are the parts in your life that it has affected? Patient: Every part and everything that looks like love to me. (Takes a deep breath) I'm engaged you know. Psychiatrist: Oh my! Congratulations. Patient: Thank you. I'm suppose to be happy, probably more excited than you are right now. Psychiatrist: What's stopping you? Patient: Fear. Psychiatrist: What kind of fear? Patient: Fear that I would be exactly like my father. Psychiatrist: Do you think you would? Patient: I don't know if I think it o...

THE PATIENT (Episode four)

Patient: I was just twelve when my mom passed away, my brother was two. My mom didn't have friends and I don't know why, because when she died we felt the impact of loneliness. My brother and I stayed in that house for almost two weeks, hoping that someone would come to pick us or stay with us. We did this while managing the remaining foodstuffs we had then. I had a little saving, so I decided to buy some more to sustain us, not knowing when next we were going to have something better to eat. A month had almost gone and still nobody came. It began to make sense to me because when my mom was alive, she never mentioned any of her sibling's existence to us. I just assumed they weren't important until it hit me real hard that I needed them. (Takes a deep breath), can I get a glass of water please... Psychiatrist: Sure (stands and walks over to the dispenser opposite her table. Gets the water and hands it over to her patient)... Patient: Thanks. Psychiatrist: (Smiles ...

THE PATIENT(Episode three)

Patient: Where did they take my son? Psychiatrist: To sedate him but don't worry, he will be fine. Patient: Are you sure? (Looking outside the room through a small glass window on the door). Psychiatrist: Yes I am. We had to sedate him, (takes a deep breath) he wasn't in a good shape. Patient: (Turns her head back to the psychiatrist) Could it be what I said to him, because I noticed his condition became worst after I made that statement. Psychiatrist: What did you say? Patient: (Takes a heavy breath in) I told him that I was tired of him and all his baggage and that he was stopping me from experiencing the life I wanted. Psychiatrist: Yes, I believe that would have been the reason he was in such shape. Patient: I didn't mean it, I was just so frustrated. Psychiatrist: Well, people with Tourette syndrome can react more when things like words gets to them and the words you accidentally said, got to him. Patient: What do you mean? Psychiatrist: He sense...

Patient: (Walks into the room starring round with hands folded).. Psychiatrist: You can have your sit here.. Patient: (Sits down gentlyl) I'm sure like every other person you are here to judge me too right, to tell me that I'm too young to be involved in stuffs like these. Psychiatrist: First of all, no one is too young or old and I haven't said anything... Patient: You don't have to okay, it's written all over your face. Psychiatrist: (Touches her face softly) what's written? Patient: That disappointed look, thesame look my parents gave me when they caught me with it. Psychiatrist: Suicide is not right, it's not like they hate you, they just feel very sad that you don't love yourself the way they love you. Patient: I don't know what to say, I don't know how to defend myself.(folds her hands on her chest) Psychiatrist: I'm not asking you too. Patient: Then what exactly do you want from me, why am I here, am i a mental pat...

THE PATIENT (Episode one)

Psychiatrist: (puts her hand forward for a hand shake) Hello, my name is Chioma Adenuga, I'm a therapist and a psychiatrist, whichever one you see me as I'm okay with it Patient: (shakes back) Are you igbo or yoruba? Psychiatrist: (Laughs) Igbo by birth, Yoruba by marriage Patient: Oh wow, that's a strong combination Psychiatrist: I know right, anyone i tell my name always gives this funny expression on their face Patient: It's quite strange combining the two names together you know Psychiatrist: (Smiles) i know. (Deep breath) So enough about me, let's get to you. How are you? Patient: I'm fine, i guess Psychiatrist: You guess? (Soft smile) Patient: Maybe, i don't know. I'm working on it Psychiatrist: Oh wow, that's pretty intense  Patient: I am just tired  Psychiatrist: I know, can you tell me what's going on Patient: (Takes a deep breath) It seems like everyone just has a two or more things to say about me.
